Below ground, the engineering problem is not space. It is air, water, power, and the discipline to keep them simple.
Underground engineering rewards simplicity. Systems that can be understood, inspected and repaired by a small team outperform systems that are merely sophisticated.
The technical priorities are consistent: air quality and filtration, thermal behaviour, water independence, power generation and storage, structural monitoring and communications. Monitoring exists to make these visible, not to replace them.
